I'll add that but it is just a 302 redirect to you-search.com which is already in the hosts file. Proxomitron Filters / Other / Pseudo-Random List Rotation

I posted a huge list of UAs in The Lodge that you can try it on. Just keep in mind the list must have exactly 1000 entries. There are more than enough UAs in that list to do it.
Come to think of it you could have a smaller list as long as the last entry matches everything else but the list would still have to be rather large to be effective as a pseudo-random list.

No issues with TrustSetter under Win2k, or with ScriptSentry for what time I used it (I determined my risk in that area was negligible).
Personally I would never install a third party patch.

Proxomitron Filters / Block List Files / Fake Proxy Host_Name & IP Filters

The string
[^/]++.(hotmail.msn.com|icq.com|hotmail.passport.com|services.msn.com|hotmail.com)
will hash better if is broken up as so.
[^/]++hotmail.msn.com/ icq.com/ [^/]++hotmail.passport.com/ [^/]++services.msn.com/ [^/]++hotmail.com/
If the www prefix is always present then the entry will hash better. Try it both ways and check the proxy info from the help menu. BTW short urls seem to hash better when the regexp [^/]++ is omited but you will want to use it with regular size or long domain names.
There is no need to include the trailing wildcard at the end of a url expression. [^/]++thehostname/ is sufficient and faster too.

Other / The HOSTS file / THESE SPAMMERS ARE ABOUT TO BITE THE DUST

Well the prescription drug situation in Canada is much much better than it is here in the US where the Pharmaceutical companies are price gouging the sick and dying. That's pretty damned - I can't even think of a suitable word to describe it! [ !]

I've got a few questions.
1. Since a lot of spammers spoof their address isn't it kind of useless to add all these addresses? Aren't they just taking up space in the Hosts file?
They spoof their email addresses but merely try to obfuscate their web addresses. They won't spoof their web address because it would make their ad of no effect if there were no place to go lose your money. BTW all the spammers sites added are first verified so that I'm not adding dead hosts. Incidentally it's not just email spammers but usenet and web forum spammers as well. quote: Originally posted by Amerk_5
2. How will it help to cut their traffic? Most people that use a hosts file know not to open spam & to just delete it.
It would be naive of me to assume that their only source of traffic is their spam. Besides that I have mentioned twice I think that users should distribute our hosts file among the senior citizens they know to help protect them from "Med Scammers". I don't know how close you are to any of the seniors in your own family but here I have my Momma and my Aunt who together are spending hundreds of dollars per month on prescription drugs alone. Just today I picked up 3 prescriptions for my Aunt which came in a large grocery-sized paper bag and cost her a little over $120.00 dollars after insurance! Needless to say they and other seniors like them are in search of a better deal - they are desperate for a better deal and that makes them vulnerable to these scammers. quote: Originally posted by Amerk_5
3. hpguru, you wouldn't happen to keep a list of just the spammers that you've added would you? If you do, I'd like a copy of it because I'm removing them from my hosts file & it'd make it easier to find them all rather than going through all the threads.
No sorry. quote: Originally posted by Amerk_5
4. And finally, although OT, have you thought about uploading a hosts file with just the additions & removals that you've made or would that be too much trouble?
I have thought about it but I won't be doing that. The main reason is the Noob factor. Installing a hosts file is pretty simple and easy but there are some folks who get hopelessly lost with it. I can imagine if I uploaded just an update file that some folks would replace their hosts file with it instead of appending the entries. Same for a *Recently removed list* and that would be even worse. Now granted 99.9% of the users here are very technically advanced and certainly don't need help in this area but I cannot safely make that assumption about everyone who downloads our hosts file.

Were you using Opera at the time? It does some funny things with cookies that may not be supported by CookieCop. For instance I made a filter some time back to alert me if an outgoing HTTP_COOKIE2 header was matched but for the longest time I never received an alert. Then after Opera 7 was released I played around with it for a while and bingo! It was returning some HTTP cookies as Cookie2! It is the only browser I know that does this.

I just wonder how long it's going to take before Europe, Russia, China or all three together determine that the US is too great a threat and decide to do something about it. The world doesn't need another Roman Empire yet an in depth study of the Neocon Papers at www.newamericancentury.org would seem to suggest that Global Domination is exactly what the US has in mind.
